Daily Trip Plan

Day 1: Sofia

Welcome to Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria, where 6 civilizations left their traces. You will be met by our staff and we will transfer you to your hotel. Today will be free for you to relax and enjoy Sofia on your own and refreshed for a morning start the next day. Overnight in Sofia.

Day 2: Sofia – Rila Monastery

In the morning after breakfast depart by bus from your hotel to Rila Monastery – the biggest monastery in Bulgaria and a monument on the UNESCO cultural heritage list. It is a true masterpiece of the Bulgarian Middle Age. Feel the special atmosphere created during the 11 centuries of its existence and admire the green mountains surrounding the monastery. On the way back to Sofia visit another jewel of the Bulgarian Middle Age art and architecture – the famous Church of Boyana, also on the list of UNESCO. Overnight in Sofia.

Day 3: Sofia – Veliko Tarnovo

In the morning after breakfast depart by bus from your hotel to Veliko Tarnovo – the former Bulgarian capital. The second Bulgarian kingdom choose this city for its capital (12th-14th century). Walk on the Tsarevets Hill, home to the Royal Palace and Patriarchy. Visit the street of the crafts, Smovodskata charshia. Experience the atmosphere of the 19th century. Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo/Arbanasi.

Day 4: Veliko Tarnovo – Etar – Valley of the Roses – Kazanlak – Stara Zagora

In the morning after breakfast depart by bus from your hotel to Stara Zagora. On the way you will visit the Architectural And Ethnographic Complex Etar, an open air museum, presenting the architecture and the lifestyle of the 18th century and early 19th century. On the crafts street you can watch in real time the work of the craftsmen. Transfer to the Valley of Roses. On the way visit a Thracian tomb more than 2500 years old. The next stop will be in a typical rose oil distillery. You will discover the secrets of the production of very high quality rose oil, and see why the Bulgarian rose oil is considered to be the best in the world. In the city of Kazanlak you will visit another Thracian tomb which is famous with its mural paintings from over 2500 years ago. End of the afternoon you will arrive in Stara Zagora. Overnight in Stara Zagora.

Day 5: Stara Zagora

The day begins with a tour of Stara Zagora. You will see the best preserved Europe Neolithic houses – over 8000 years old. Walk in the main trading street of the Roman city Augusta Trayana built by the Roman Emperor Trayan (98-117 AD). You will see the antic forum of this city with the remains of the amphiteater, the thermal baths, the city walls and the western gate. Visit a private Roman residence from late Antiquity with wonderful mosaics from 4th century AD. You will visit the Museum of the religions – a unique museum with temples of 3 different religions under one roof – Thracian, Christian and Islamic. Time for shopping. Overnight in Stara Zagora.

Day 6: Stara Zagora – Plovdiv

After breakfast depart by bus to Plovdiv, the second biggest city in Bulgaria. Plovdiv is also one of the oldest cities of Europe. During your visit of Plovdiv you will see the monuments of different civilizations – Roman, Ottoman, Bulgarian. Walk in the small streets of the old city and admire the beautiful colorful houses of rich merchants from 18th-19th century. Overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 7: Plovdiv – Asen’s Forteress – Bachkovo Monastery – Plovdiv

In the morning after breakfast depart to the Rhodop Mountains – mythic mountains and spiritual place. Visit the medieval Asen’s fortress, built as an eagle nest on the high rocks over the Asenitsa river. You will enjoy the history of the fortress and the panoramic view of the Rhodop Mountains and the river. Next stop – Bachkovo monastery. This is the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria. It was established in 1083 and combines three cultures – Byzantine, Georgian and Bulgarian. The most treasured item of the monastery, which is also held in the monastery’s temple, is the miraculous Virgin Mary icon. It dates as far back as 1311. Return to Plovdiv. Free time to enjoy by yourselves the city and for shopping. Overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 8: Plovdiv – Panagurishte – Sofia

Departure to the city of Panagurishte. Visit of the historical museum with the famous Panagurishte gold treasure 2400 years old (dated to late 4th/early 3rd century BC) – truly a masterpiece of the Antiquity. The treasure consists of nine vessels made of pure 24-karat gold, with total weight of 6.164 kg. Viewing of the house-museum “Raina Knyagina”, Dudekov house, Tutev house, Lekova house. Lunch with wine tasting of the wines of Rumelia wine cellar. Departure to Sofia. Overnight in Sofia

Day 9: Sofia- Thracian, Roman, Byzantine ,Ottoman and Bulgarian Monuments Tour plus 3 tastings of traditional Bulgarian and European food and wines.

Walking tour to the city center (about 3 hours). You will see St. Sophia church dating back to 5th-6th century AD, a monument of Bulgarian medieval civilization that gave the current name of the town. You will visit the largest cathedral Alexander Nevski with its gilded dome, the rotunda St. George from the 3th-4th century, Banya Bashi Mosque built in 16th century over natural thermal spas and named after the neighboring Central Baths, the city fortress and you will feel the atmosphere of the city, whose history dates back over 5000 years. During the tour you will have 3 culinary stops. You will taste traditional Bulgarian and European food and wines. In the evening dinner in a special traditional Bulgarian restaurant with a program of folklore dances and songs.

Day 10: Sofia – Departure

After breakfast check out from hotel and transfer to the airport depending on your flights timing. End of our services – return home with unforgettable memories of Bulgaria!
